![]() ![]() Lim Zhi Tong 2A 11/03/08 Environmental Pollution-Have we done enough? Environmental pollution refers to all the ways that human activity harms the natural environment. The major types of environmental pollution include air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, pollution caused by solid waste and hazardous waste, and noise pollution. The relationships among all the living and non-living things in an environment make up an ecological system, called an ecosystem. All the ecosystems of the Earth are connected. Thus, pollution that seems to affect only one part of the environment may also affect other parts. We, humans are constantly polluting the environment! Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems facing humanity and other life forms on our planet today. Nearly everyone would like to have pollution reduced. Unfortunately, most of the pollution that now threatens the health of our planet comes from products that many people want and need. Controlling pollution depends on the efforts of governments, scientists, business and industry, agriculture, environmental organizations, and individuals. We can fight pollution by learning as much as possible about how our actions affect the environment! Then we can make intelligent choices that will reduce damage to the planet. Over time, pollution can be reduced in many ways without seriously disrupting people's lives!! Honestly, we cannot stop polluting our Earth but we can reduce air pollution! Plant more trees, use public transport, stop deforestation, use fresh air windows instead of air-conditioner, use Reuse, Reduce, Recycle plastic products, and switch off lights and electronic appliances when you are not using it. We can then make a difference to the earth! Word Count: 266 |
